The University of Craiova is a public university located in Craiova, Romania. It was founded in 1947. Serving as the largest educational institution in the historic Oltenia province of Romania, it holds the distinction of being the last university to be established during the era of the Kingdom of Romania. In 1965, it gained official recognition as the 5th university by the Ministerial Council of the Socialist Republic of Romania, boasting 7 faculties including Mathematics, Philology, Electrotechnics, Agriculture, Horticulture, Chemistry, and Economics. The University of Craiova ranks topmost among the Romanian higher education system (56 among accredited public higher education institutions in Romania and 35 among accredited private higher education institutions in 2012). Its institutional evaluation conducted by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS) concluded with a “High Confidence Rating” in 2009.

The University of Craiova is an active participant in the academic European community, actively sharing its cultural, moral, scientific, and educational principles. Affiliated with prominent organizations such as EUA (European University Association), CER (Conference of European Rectors), IAU (International Association of Universities), IAUP (International Association of University Presidents), AUF (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie), BSUN (Black Sea Universities Network), and AEUA (Association of Arab and European Universities), the University of Craiova is deeply engaged in various international networks. It maintains partnerships with 122 ERASMUS partners and an additional 25 partner universities spanning across Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, and South America.

The University of Craiova enrolled more than 20,000 international students and 2,000 members of academic staff. The university is a member of the European University Association. It currently includes 12 educational faculties and 2 colleges for Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs. The University of Craiova undertakes public accountability with respect to the quality of the study programs, scientific research, and services to the community. The university carries out strategic and operational partnerships with representatives of the socio-economic and cultural environment (SMEs, multinational companies, banks, public institutions, museums, theatres, etc.), meant to ensure a solid practical training of students.
