Medical University of Silesia in Katowice
The Medical University of Silesia has a long deep history and 600 years of traditions. It is located in the wonderful Polish city of Katowice. University provides high-quality education in various fields of medicine and health, has more than 10,200 students, and over 1200 persons of teaching staff. During the first five years, University consisted of one school of medicine and a dentistry department, but thanks to opening many clinical and theoretical units were able to ensure a complete educational process. Theoretical units, rector’s office, and library were located in Rokitnica, and clinical units were located in hospitals in Zabrze and Bytom.
The Medical University of Silesia is constantly modernizing its didactic, research, and clinical infrastructure. The construction of the Education and Medical Simulation Centre, implemented within the Infrastructure and Environment Program gave the opportunity to teach students of SUM using modern didactic based on simulation and IT techniques.
The University provides various forms of international cooperation with foreign research centers and universities worldwide through joint research, participation in international programs and research projects, joint publications, and participation in scientific conferences, as well as through numerous student and staff exchanges. The Medical University of Silesia carries out active international cooperation within the “Lifelong Learning Programâ€. To this date, the University has entered into many partnership agreements with medical universities and research centers worldwide.
The University plays also an increasingly significant role in the development of areas such as cardiology, cardio surgery, gastroenterology, hematology, nephrology, and much more. Accommodation
The Medical University of Silesia in Katowice offers accommodation for students at the dormitory located on the campus, within walking distance from the basic science buildings in Katowice-Ligota.
Dormitory buildings located at 26 Medykow Street (7-floor building), and at 24 Medykow Street (8-floor building) offer the following housing conditions:
- single room priced at 900 PLN per month (regular standard bathrooms);
- single room priced at 740 PLN per month (lower standard bathrooms).
All the premises are fully furnished and ensured with modern conveniences like cold and hot water, electricity, free Wi-Fi, central heating during the winter period, etc. There are common laundry and kitchen, library, TV room, assembly hall, gym, and swimming pool, available every day of the week. The dormitories are safe, owing to the surveillance cameras and strict pass system. The outdoor territory is surrounded by supermarkets, cafes, and coffee bars, banks, and sports centers.
