The University of Zagreb was established on 23rd September 1669 by Emperor and King Leopold I Habsburg and stands as the most ancient Croatian university and the earliest institution of its kind in Southeast Europe. A prestigious academic institution was granted the esteemed status and privileges of a university by an imperial decree, imparting official recognition to the Jesuit Academy of the Royal Free City of Zagreb. Now, the University of Zagreb is one of the most popular study destinations in Croatia and among the two public universities operating in Northern and Central Croatia. It provides the educational process at 160 Bachelor’s degree programs with receiving Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees, 22 combined Undergraduate-graduate programs, 9 vocational Undergraduate programs, 174 Master’s degree programs with receiving Master of Arts or Master of Science degrees, 1 vocational Master’s program, 72 Doctoral programs (Ph.D.), and 165 specialized Postgraduate programs.

The University of Zagreb is a member of the following international associations – AUF (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie), CASEE (ICA Regional Network for Central and South Eastern Europe), DRC (Danube Rectors’ Conference), EUA (European University Association), IAU (International Association of Universities), RCAA  (Rectors’ Conference of the Alps-Adriatic Universities), SEFI (Société Europénne pour la Formation des Ingénieurs), and UNICA (Network of Universities from the Capitals of Europe). The University of Zagreb provides international and Croatian students to take part in student exchange programs. They can participate in a formal exchange program between their home university and the University of Zagreb (i.e. Erasmus+, Bilateral agreements, CEEPUS, etc.). The university is a member of the Erasmus+ program, which provides its students and members of academic staff with the opportunity to get new experiences and knowledge while studying at any Erasmus+ partner university. International students have access to all needed for comfortable education process facilities.

Accommodation

The Student Residence Hall „Dr. Ante Starčević“ is the third largest residence hall in Zagreb. It has a capacity of more than 1,200 beds and it consists of 3 buildings. The educational buildings of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Teacher Education, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, Faculty of Machinery, and Naval Architecture are within walking distance from the Students Residence (10-15 minutes on foot). It provides students with double-bed rooms shared with a roommate (there is no option to be alone in a room). Rooms have a small refrigerator and modern furniture. There is a modern kitchen equipped with all the needed supplies on every floor.

The Student Residence Hall „Cvjetno naselje“ is the second largest residence hall in Zagreb. It was renovated in 2015. It has a capacity of more than 1,700 beds and it consists of 8 buildings, a student restaurant, and a coffee and pastry shop. Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, Faculty of Machinery and Naval Architecture are within walking distance from the Students Residence (10-15 minutes on foot). 

The Student Residence Hall „Stjepan Radić“ with more than 4,000 beds is considered the biggest of its kind in Zagreb. The Student’s Residence consists of 12 buildings, a student restaurant, a pizzeria, a coffee and pastry shop, a grocery shop, a post office, and a club. It provides students with double-bed rooms shared with a roommate (there is no option to be alone in a room). Every two rooms share a kitchen and a bathroom. There is a modern kitchen equipped with all needed supplies on every floor, even a refrigerator. You have to bring your own dishes if you want to cook.
