LABORATORY SCIENCE

Laboratory science (also known as medical technology or medical laboratory science) is a biology/chemistry-based bachelor’s degree that prepares students for dynamic careers in places such as hospital labs and clinics, forensic labs, veterinary clinics, industrial research and molecular biotechnology labs.

Expets in this area of studies analyze blood, urine, tissue, and other body specimens. These test results play an important role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases.

Laboratory scientists are in high demand. And with future growth predicted to be above average for all professions, laboratory science provides solid job security.

Laboratory Science fields of work:

  • research and product development;
  • insurance underwriting;
  • forensic medicine;
  • forensic science;
  • Peace Corps;
  • food, cosmetic and consumer-product testing labs;
  • medical product sales and marketing.

Laboratory Science Course takes 2 years 10 months of studies.

 

The Medium of Instruction for foreign students is available in English/Russian.

CURRICULUM

Russian and Ukrainian universities start their academic year on the 1st of September and finish in the middle of June (depends on the university). The year is divided into 2 semesters:

  • The 1st semester lasts from September,1 to the last week of January.
  • The 2nd semester lasts from the first week of February to the middle of June.

 

There are 5 working days (Monday-Friday) and 2 weekends (Saturday, Sunday) at universities.

Classes usually start at 8/9:00 and finish at 16:00.

 

During their studies, students have lectures, practical lessons, excursions, project work and final tests. In the end of each semester students have to pass an examination session. If the students pass it successfully, they go on a winter/summer vacation. In case they fail the exams, students have to prepare and pass the failed exam once more.
